World Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent not canceled due to coronavirus

The World Weightlifting Championship, which is to be held in Tashkent from December 7 to 17, will not be canceled due to the threat of the spread of the omicron strain of coronavirus and will be held on time. This was reported to TASS by a member of the executive committee of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Maxim Agapitov.

In early December, the Inside the Games portal reported that the World Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent could be canceled due to - for the tightening of quarantine measures by the authorities of Uzbekistan in response to the threat of the spread of the omicron strain of coronavirus.

The Uzbek authorities have decided to restrict the entry of representatives of a number of countries from December 1 due to the threat spread of the omicron strain of coronavirus. So, those who arrived from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Egypt must serve a 10-day quarantine upon arrival in Uzbekistan.

“The organizers of the tournament decided that the participants from these countries are exempted from passing a 10-day quarantine, they will live in hotels reserved in Tashkent and compete in the conditions of the “bubble,” the TASS interlocutor added.
