The legendary chess trophy was won by a team of students from the Velammal Vidyacaya school from Chennai. Young chess players scored more than 33 points, securing an eight-point lead over their rivals.

The second were schoolchildren from the Yekaterinburg Lyceum "Polyforum", who scored 25.5 points. The top three winners were the team of the St. Petersburg school with in-depth study of the English language. This year, more than 100 teams came to measure their strength, among which were teams from Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Israel, Armenia.

The final stage of the tournament was held in early June in Sochi in the village of Dagomys. The Russian teams that won regional chess tournaments, as well as the winners of the national championship of foreign countries, took part in the final games.

Having taken first place this year, Indian schoolchildren received the right to take part in the international chess festival Aeroflot open, which takes place annually in Moscow. This year the representative of India took the second place.

For reference:

Chess Tournament "White Rook" among students of general education schools up to 14 years old has been held for almost half a century - since 1969 - and in previous years it was incredibly popular. In the period 1991-2004 there were no competitions. Since 2004, with the support of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation, the tournament has been held again.
