Georgian weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze won the weight category over 109 kg at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

He broke his own world record set at the European Championships in Moscow in 2021. His result was 488 kg (snatch - 223 kg, clean and jerk - 265 kg). The results in both exercises were also record-breaking.

The second place was taken by the Iranian Ali Davoudi, who showed the result of 441 kg (200 kg + 241 kg). Third with a result of 424 kg (190 kg + 234 kg) was the Syrian Man Asaad. For the Syrian national team, this medal was the first at the Tokyo Games and the fourth Olympic medal in history.

The Georgian team with two gold, four silver and one bronze medals is on the 23rd line in the overall medal standings. The first place is taken by the Chinese team (32-22-16), the second - by the USA (25-31-23), the third - by Japan (21-7-12), the fourth - by the UK (15-18-15), the fifth - by Australia ( 15-4-17). The Russian team is on the sixth line (14-21-18).

27-year-old Lasha Talakhadze became a two-time Olympic champion, he also has four victories at world championships and five at European championships.
