Ivan Yarygin's wrestling tournament opened in Krasnoyarsk

Representatives of 12 countries will take part in the tournament.


The opening ceremony of the international tournament named after the two-time Olympic champion, world and European champion, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR Ivan Yarygin was held on Friday in Krasnoyarsk, TASS correspondent reports from the scene.

The competitions will be held at the Ivan Yarygin Sports Palace and will end on January 29. Wrestlers from Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Greece, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Serbia, Turkey, Uzbekistan will take part in them

"Today, the tournament brought together representatives of 12 countries, which once again says that sport unites, sport is beyond politics," Governor of the region Alexander Uss said at the opening ceremony.

Mikhail Mamiashvili, President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR), expressed confidence that the next anniversary tournament will bring together the best wrestlers in the world. "The name of Ivan Yarygin serves the unification and the cause of friendship," Mikhail stressed Mamiashvili.

The Ivan Yarygin Tournament was established in 1990. The first competitions were held in Abakan, since 1991 the venue of the tournament is Krasnoyarsk. Since 2020, the competitions have ceased to have the status of rating. On January 25, 2023, the first vice-president of the FSBR Natalia Yarygina announced that in 2024 the tournament could become a rating one.
