The construction of a multifunctional sports complex "Kuzbass Arena" has been completed in Kemerovo.

The construction of the multifunctional sports complex "Kuzbass Arena" for 7.5 thousand spectators in Kemerovo, which was supposed to be one of the venues for the World Volleyball Championship in 2022, has been completed, it is being prepared for commissioning. The object was inspected by the assistant to the President of the Russian Federation on Thursday Igor Levitin, Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin, reports correspondent. TASS.

"[The construction took] 1 year and 8 months. At the same time, the embankment was raised by eight meters (the Tom River at the construction site — approx. TASS), started all communications, built roads. The Kuzbass Arena [has created opportunities for practicing] 24 sports, each with its own gym, locker rooms. This [sports complex] also has a 50-meter Olympic swimming pool, a reverse wave pool for surfing training, the largest wind tunnel in Europe and the CIS, one of the largest halls for mountaineering and even a table tennis hall for 21 tables," the governor of the region Sergey Tsivilev told the guests.

The Kuzbass Arena multifunctional sports complex in Kemerovo began to be built in 2020, but after a few months work on the site was suspended due to difficulties with financing. The total cost of construction amounted to almost 9.5 billion rubles. According to Tsivilev, the construction is fully financed by the region. The total area of the sports facility is over 52 thousand square meters, it can accommodate up to 10 thousand people, including 7.5 thousand spectators in the central arena.

"Great, well done," Levitin said after examining the object.
