Uzbekistan will host the Chess Olympiad in 2026

The 2026 World Chess Olympiad will be held in Tashkent or Samarkand.

After the inspection visit, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) will choose the venue of the 2026 World Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan from two proposals — Tashkent or Samarkand. This was announced on Tuesday in an interview with TASSArkady Dvorkovich, who was re-elected on Sunday as president of FIDE.

"The next Chess Olympiad will be held in Budapest in 2024. This will be the centennial year of FIDE. And in 2026, as we have decided, it will be Uzbekistan. It will probably be either Tashkent or Samarkand. The final decision will be made after visiting the country," he saidArkadyDvorkovich.

On Sunday, at the FIDE Congress in Chennai, India, the application of the Chess Federation of Uzbekistan for hosting the World Chess Olympiad in 2026 was approved.
