The Summer Universiade in Chengdu, China, has been postponed to 2022.

The Summer Universiade in Chengdu, China, which was supposed to be held from August 18 to 29, 2021, has been postponed to 2022 due to the pandemic. This was reported by the press service of the International University Sports Federation (FISU).

New dates for the competition will be announced later, when agreed with all relevant authorities. The name  Chengdu World University Games-2021 and the tournament logo will be retained.

“Many of Universiade athletes had the opportunity to train, albeit with breaks, throughout the pandemic, but some didn didn’t  due to university campuses and sports facilities being closed  says   the statement of FISU. “Furthermore, the FISU Executive Committee believes that the likely improvement in the health situation in 2022 will be such that the tournament is more likely to give athletes the experience that FISU aims to provide. This approach is fully consistent with the goal of the federation - to shape the leaders of the future based on their experience in international collegiate sports.
