Turkish athlete sets freediving record

Shahiki Ercumen dived to a depth of 100 meters in the Gilindir cave in Mersin and broke the previous world record.


The new record was held in the category without fins and in one breath. The girl dedicated her achievement to the 96th anniversary of the creation of Turkey. This is the seventh record for a freediver.

Shahika herself says that before the dive she was very worried and could not lower her heart rate for a long time. 

Ercumen is also a multiple participant in the world and European championships. Since 2001, she has been playing for the Turkish national team in various types of underwater sports.

The previous similar record for women in this discipline was 90 meters.
