The governor of the northeastern province of Erzurum is ready to share one of the stages of the Winter Olympic Games with Sochi, reports the specialized portal Inside the Games.

Russian Ambassador to Turkey Alexei Yerkhov and head of Erzurum province Seyfettin Azisoglu discussed cooperation in the field of sports the day before. During the negotiations, the head of the Turkish region offered the Russian side to hold several stages of the 2026 Olympic Games together.

According to him, Sochi, where the main international competitions of the four-year period were held in 2014, has an excellent sports infrastructure for a number of disciplines.

First of all, we are talking about the use of the bobsleigh track "Sanki", which was built in 2012 specifically for the Games. It can host bobsleigh, skeleton and luge competitions.

to host the Games together with Sochi. There are sports facilities in Sochi that are not in Erzurum. It would be too expensive an investment for us to build them, so we can host the competition together,” TASS quoted the Turkish governor as saying.

Currently, Turkey has not yet received the right to host the 2026 Winter Olympics. The venue for the next Games will be named by the International Olympic Committee in September 2019.
