Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian skiers on a well-deserved Olympic gold medal.


The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putincongratulated Yulia Stupak, Natalya Nepryaeva, Tatiana Sorinaand Veronika Stepanova on winning competitions in  cross-country skiing in the 4x5 km relay at the Olympic Games in Beijing. The telegram was published on Saturday on the Kremlin website.


“Congratulations on a real triumph, on deserved Olympic gold. Incredible willpower, team cohesion, the desire to fight to & nbsp; to the end, to & nbsp; the last seconds helped you literally snatch victory from & nbsp; serious and & nbsp; experienced rivals, convincingly confirm your leadership qualities, - the message says.


According to the words of Vladimir Putina, Russian athletes justified the hopes of coaches, mentors, teammates and to all the Russian fans who followed their exciting performance with hope. He wished the skiers new successful starts and sports achievements.


On Saturday, Russian skiers won gold medals in the 4x5 km relay at the Olympic Games in Beijing. The Russians covered the distance in 53 minutes 41 seconds. Second place was taken by the German team consisting of Katherine Sauerbrei, Katarina Hennig, Victoria Karl and Sophie Krell (18.2 seconds back). Bronze was won by the Sweden team consisting of Maja Dahlqvist, Ebba Andersson, Frida Karlsson and Jonna Sundling (+20.7). The skiers passed the first two stages of the relay race in the classical style, and the third and fourth -free.
