The Olympic flag arrives at the Great Wall of China

The Olympic flag arrived from Pyeongchang to Beijing, the capital of the 2022 Winter Games. “The 2022 Olympics have begun their Beijing time,” said Han Zirong, Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the Beijing Games.

According to the agency  Xinhua, the solemn welcoming ceremony for the symbol of the Olympics was held in Yanqing District in northern Beijing, one of the three venues for the next Games.

Yanqing District is located 74 km from the Chinese capital. It is expected that in 2022 there will be competitions in alpine skiing, bobsleigh and luge. Two other Olympic venues are located in the north of Beijing and in the city of Zhangjiakou in the neighboring province of Hebei (Northern China).

The closing ceremony of the XXIII Olympic Games in Pyeongchang took place on February 25. On it, the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, handed over the Olympic flag to Beijing Mayor Chen Jining. The Chinese capital will be the first city in the world to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics.

The Games in Beijing will be held from 4 to 20 February 2022.
