Governor Oleg Kozhemyako met with the athletes who will compete at the Olympics in Pyeongchang.


Today, six members of the freestyle team, specializing in the discipline of ski cross, arrived on the island.

Before the start in South Korea, the athletes will train at the "Mountain Air", where a special track has been equipped for them.

— How are you feeling? - the governor asked the Olympians.

 - Sakhalin has long been chosen for the final training camp before the Olympics. Excellent conditions for training on "Mountain Air", well suited for acclimatization, - said the head coach of the team Alexander Dolgov. 

 Ski-cross is the most difficult freestyle discipline. Competitions are held on specially prepared ski slopes. In the final races, skiers start at the same time by 4 people and pass the track with obstacles in the form of turns and jumps.

Ski cross has become an Olympic sport since 2010. For Victoria Zavadovskaya, Sergey Ridzik, Igor Amelin and Semyon Denshchikov, this is the first Olympics. Egor Korotkov performed in Vancouver, Anastasia Chirtsova - in Sochi. 

— We pay great attention to the development of the Mountain Air ski complex. We plan that the total length of its tracks will be more than 40 kilometers,” Oleg Kozhemyako shared. - I'm sure we'll meet again. The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing. Therefore, we hope that Sakhalin will become one of the main training grounds for Russian Olympians representing winter sports. For this, all conditions will be created here. For example, now, in addition to new ski slopes, we are building a modern biathlon complex. 

The athletes will stay on the island for two weeks. On February 4, they will hold an open training session for everyone at the "Mountain Air". The Olympians will leave for South Korea on February 15. Russian skier Alisa Zhambalova is now preparing for the starts in Pyeongchang on Sakhalin, Sakh.com news agency reports with reference to the press service of the regional government.
