Andrey Nikolaev won gold at the Paralympics in swimming at a distance of 400 meters freestyle.

Russian Andrey Nikolaev won the gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in the 400m freestyle.

He clocked 4 minutes 25.16 seconds. Silver went to Alberto Amodeo of Italy (0.77 seconds back), bronze went to Matthew Torres of the USA (+3.31). Athletes competed in the S8 category among persons with various forms of disability, including people with amputations and cerebral palsy.

Andrey Nikolaev20 years old, earlier at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, he won a silver medal in swimming at a distance of 100 m freestyle. The Russian is a two-time winner of the World and European Championships, a two-time silver medalist of the European Championship and a bronze medalist of the world championship. He started swimming in 2008. Since 2018, Andrey Nikolaev has been a member of the Paralympic team.

Russian athletes, who have won 23 gold, 12 silver and 33 bronze medals, take third place in the Paralympic medal standings. The Chinese team remains the leader (59-37-31), followed by the UK team (28-22-23).
