Shagai, Novorossiysk: Walking Day is celebrated in the Krasnodar Territory

The program of events within the framework of the All-Russian Walking Day, which this year is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory, started in Novorossiysk. The city has become the central venue for the sports festival, which will be held from 3 to 4 October in 48 Russian regions.


Walking Day, which is celebrated in Russia for the sixth year in a row, is part of a large-scale sports festival under the auspices of the International Sports Association for All (TAFIS). Every year, millions of people from  150 countries of the world, as part of the International Walking Day, go to the start of walking routes, thereby promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles. Russia joined this project in 2015. The role of the organizers of the All-Russian Walking Day was assumed by the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), which became part of TAFISA in 2017, and the regional Olympic Councils.


The solemn opening ceremony of the sports festival at the Cape of Love began promptly at noon, and just half an hour before the celebratory fanfare there was a special animation program and fitness -exercises for participants of the Olympic route 2020 meters long. Acting Mayor Roman Breus, President of the ROC Stanislav Pozdnyakov and other officials addressed hundreds of walking fans who gathered in one of the favorite vacation spots for residents and guests of Novorossiysk. The host of the opening ceremony was Dmitry Guberniev.


“We know that there are difficult weather conditions when winds blow, but such winds also occur in ordinary life, where there are difficulties and problems , - said Stanislav Pozdnyakov. — Now all our athletes are worried because many competitions are canceled due to the pandemic, but it is not about us, gathered here, we strive to live life to the fullest and very glad that this area is filled with those people who enjoy a sporty lifestyle. Today we are celebrating Walking Day for the sixth time, today hundreds of thousands of our compatriots across the country, from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad, will take to the streets to demonstrate the solidarity of our entire sports family. On behalf of the Russian Olympic Committee, I congratulate you on this wonderful holiday.”


Guests of honor and activities for participants


Together with residents of Novorossiysk and holidays from other regions of the Russian Federation the start of the course at 2020 m came out the president of the Handball Federation of Russia Sergey Shishkarev, bronze medalist of the 2016 Olympic Games in sailing Stefania Elfutina, Olympic champion in judo Beslan Mudranov, Olympic champions in trampolining Irina Karavaeva and Alexander Moskalenko, winner of the handball tournament of the 2000 Games Stanislav Kulinchenko and many others. At the start, all participants received T-shirts with holiday symbols, and at the finish commemorative medals and ROC diplomas.


The finish area was located on Forumnaya Square, where everyone took part in the sport-story game "Walk-Quest". Walking Day participants also visited the military-patriotic station dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Moscow-80, Sochi-2014 and Tokyo-2020 sites. The most active claimed commemorative prizes and the opportunity to compete in the superfinal for one of eight sets of sports equipment.
