The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo must be held with spectators, despite the situation with the coronavirus pandemic. This opinion was expressed in an interview published on Saturday with Japanese newspapers Asahi and Yomiuri by the head of the organizing committee of the Games Seiko Hashimoto.

The first thing to do is to take action against the coronavirus,” she added.

On March 3, an online meeting is to be held with the participation of the leadership of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), representatives the government of Japan, the administration of Tokyo and the organizing committee of the Games. It is expected to discuss, among other things, the issue of allowing spectators to enter sports facilities during the Olympics.

The Tokyo Olympics were supposed to be held from July 24 to August 9, 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the competition was postponed for a year and will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021. At the same time, the name of the Tokyo 2020 Games has been retained.
