Organizers of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo presented to journalists the pedestals made from recycled plastic, which will be used during the award ceremonies. This was reported by the agency Kyodo on Thursday.

It is noted that the material for the pedestals are recycled bottles, as well as plastic garbage caught from the sea. At the same time, for the emblems of the Olympic and Paralympic Games installed on the pedestals, aluminum was used, which was left over from residential buildings destroyed during the 2011 earthquake. With these materials, the organizers have embodied the principle of "sustainable existence", which is one of the concepts of the current Games, Kyodo emphasizes.

The Tokyo Games were to be held from July 24 to August 9, 2020. Due to the pandemic, the competition was postponed for a year. The Olympic Games will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021, and the Paralympic Games from August 24 to September 5.
