The Ministries of Sports of Russia and Nepal signed an action plan for the development of cooperation.

The Ministry of Sports of Russia will work out a plan for the participation of representatives of Nepal in sports events in Russia. This was announced on Tuesday by the press service of the Ministry of Sports after the signing of the action plan for 2022-2023 for the development of cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports between Russia and Nepal.

The document was signed as part of a working meeting of the Minister of Sports of the Russian FederationOleg Matytsin with the Minister of Youth and Sports of NepalMaheshwar Gahatraja. The action plan is aimed at joint work of the countries in terms of organizing training and competitive processes, exchange of experience, cooperation in the development of sports infrastructure and sports science.

"The Russian Federation always stands for direct and open dialogue and adheres to the principle of non-interference in politics. Sport should serve to strengthen ties between countries and respect the principles of Olympism. Sports cooperation between Russia and Nepal has great potential. A series of joint Russian-Nepalese projects are already being implemented. I am sure that after today's meeting, the plan will be replenished with active bilateral events," he saidOleg Matytsin.

"Our meeting is taking place on the eve of several major tournaments — international competitions in swimming, synchronized swimming and diving "Friendship Games" in Kazan, VII International Sports Games "Children of Asia" in Vladivostok. We will be glad to see the delegation of Nepal at these events, and Mr. Gahatraj as an honorary guest," the Russian minister added.

Maheshwar Gahatraja noted that effective diplomatic relations have existed between Russia and Nepal for more than 60 years. "During this time, Russia has significantly influenced the economic development of Nepal. More than 6,000 students have graduated from Russian universities and are now actively developing Nepalese medicine, agriculture, and construction. This meeting will give an even greater impetus to the joint cooperation of our countries with the help of sports," he stressed.
