FIFA has introduced a semi-automatic system for determining offside at the World Cup in Qatar.

The "offside" position of the players at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be determined by semi-automatic notification of the referee. This was announced on Friday by the press service of the International Football Federation (FIFA).

The new technology will use 12 special security cameras installed under the roof of the stadium. They will track the movement of the ball and the players, calculating their exact position on the field. In addition, an inertial measuring unit sensor will be installed in the World Cup game ball, which will accurately determine the moment when the ball touches.

The technology will automatically notify the match officials about the offside, then the confirmed decision will be brought to the chief referee of the match. Later, a 3D animation will be generated on the main screen of the stadium, which will show the audience the circumstances of the "offside" situation.

The Qatar World Cup will be held from November 21 to December 18, 2022 in five cities at eight stadiums.
