This was reported to TASS on Thursday by the press service of the Ministry of Sports.

The parties discussed the preparation of a program of cooperation in the field of sports for 2022-2024 between Russia and Syria. The program provides for joint sports events, the exchange of athletes and coaches, as well as the participation of Syrian athletes in open competitions in athletics, swimming, basketball, football, judo, boxing, wrestling, tennis, karate and weightlifting. Russia is ready to strengthen interuniversity cooperation, hold joint challenge matches, and develop a dialogue in the field of sports science. It is planned that the cooperation program will be signed at the end of 2022 as part of the visit of the Russian delegation to Syria.

"Such an important international sporting event as the Friendship Games demonstrates the principles of solidarity of peoples, the unification of athletes from different countries, gives an opportunity to compete and prove themselves. I wish the Syrian athletes a decent performance and victories," Matytsin said.

"Russia stands for a direct and open dialogue that allows building mutually beneficial relations in the field of physical culture and sports between countries and peoples. The restrictions imposed by international sports federations on Russian athletes are unacceptable both from a legal point of view and from the point of view of common sense. The application of such sanctions is an example of unprecedented violations of the fundamental principles of the Olympic Charter, sport has always served the cause of uniting peoples. I want to emphasize that Russia does not close itself off from international contacts and competitions," the minister added.

The "Friendship Games" will be held in three stages. The first stage, Mir, will last until August 3 and will include the final of the Russian Swimming Cup, international diving competitions and international synchronized swimming competitions. The second stage — "Sport" — will consist of the Cup of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan in diving and the Russian Swimming Championship. It is planned for the period from 9 to 26 November. The third stage — "Legends" — is organized jointly with titled Russian athletes, the competition program will include the Vladimir Salnikov Cup in swimming, the Svetlana Romashina Cup in synchronized swimming and the Dmitry Sautin Cup in diving. The competition will be held in December.
