A marathon was held in Shanghai, despite the anti-weed restrictions.

Chinese runners won both the men's and women's events of the Shanghai Marathon in 2022. About 18 thousand people took part in the race on Sunday.

The best time for men was shown by Yang Shaohui. He covered the full distance of 42 kilometers in 2 hours, 16 minutes and 4 seconds. Among women, Zhang Deshun was the first to finish. She managed to complete the marathon in 2 hours, 28 minutes and 17 seconds.

Given the continuing anti-weed restrictions in the city, only those who permanently reside in Shanghai were able to go the distance. Foreigners who have lived in the city for at least six months and have a valid visa were also allowed to run.

According to the established rules, all marathon participants were not supposed to leave the city after November 17. Runners also had to take PCR tests every day three days before the start.

The race started from the Bund in Huangpu district. The finish line was at the intersection of Longqi and Yujin Streets in the city's Xuhui district.

Before the spread of covid, the Shanghai Marathon was a large-scale sports festival that annually attracted tens of thousands of participants from all over the world. For example, in 2019, 38 thousand people entered the distance, and in 2020 the number of participants decreased to 9 thousand. The Shanghai Marathon has been held since 1996. In the men 's competition , the record time for overcoming the full distance was shown in 2015 by a runner from Kenya, who reached the finish line in 2 hours, 7 minutes and 11 seconds.
