the unofficial chess capital of Russia,” said Karjakin. - How many international competitions and domestic tournaments have been held - can't be counted. In 10 years, two Chess Olympiads will be held here, this fact speaks for itself,” the agency quotes the words of the master.

From September 9 to October 4, the World Chess Cup will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk, and in 2020 here the World Chess Olympiad. Thus, the capital of the Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug will become one of the few cities in the world that have hosted the Chess Olympiad twice. It was held here for the first time ten years ago, in 2010.
Until now, the unofficial status of the chess capital of Russia has been retained by Elista, the capital of Kalmykia, where the World Chess Olympiad was held in 1998.
