Kemerovo will host the Winter Games "Children of Asia"

The authorities of Kuzbass will allocate 1.1 billion rubles for the preparation and holding of the Winter games "Children of Asia".


The Kuzbass authorities will allocate about 1.1 billion rubles from the regional budget for the preparation and holding of the International Winter Sports Games "Children of Asia", which will be held in Kemerovo region in February and March 2023. This was reported to TASS on Friday in the press service of the regional government.


"In total, it is planned to allocate more than 1.1 billion rubles from the regional budget for the preparation, organization and holding of the Children of Asia Games," the press service said.


Competitions in ten sports will be held on the basis of eight international-level sports facilities in four municipalities of Kuzbass. Currently, the region is preparing sports infrastructure. The reconstruction of the largest ice arena of Kuznetsk Metallurgists in the south of Kuzbass, where hockey and figure skating competitions will be held, is being completed in Novokuznetsk. On Mount Foggy in In the Tashtagolsky district, where snowboarders will join, and at the Yugus ski complex in Mezhdurechensk, where alpine skiing and ski jumping starts will take place, new chairlift roads are being built.


Speed skating tournaments, including short track, will be held in the largest sports complex in Siberia — the Kuzbass Ice Palace, which was built last year in Kemerovo and was recognized as the best ice arena in Russia by the end of 2021. There are also plans to upgrade the infrastructure of the Lokomotiv ski base in Kemerovo, where skiing competitions will be held.


"The entire sports infrastructure built and reconstructed in preparation for the "Children of Asia" will be used in the future not only for competitions of various levels, but, first of all, in the preparation of Kuzbass athletes. It is important that both professional athletes and sports enthusiasts will be able to visit these modern sports facilities. It is important for us that the residents of the region have the opportunity to engage in all kinds of sports," said the Governor of Kuzbass Sergey Tsivilev.


The II Winter International Sports Games "Children of Asia" will be held from February 23 to March 5, 2023 in Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Mezhdurechensk and Tashtagolsky district of the Kemerovo region. It is expected that 28 teams from 20 Asian countries, as well as from the regions of Russia, will participate in them. The competition program included cross-country skiing, short track, hockey, snowboarding, alpine skiing, figure skating, ski jumping. At the initiative of Kuzbass, curling, freestyle, and speed skating are also included in the program for the first time. A special feature of the Games will also be the holding of demonstration and demonstration competitions in volleyball on snow and esports.
