Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin defended his world title

Kazakhstani Gennady Golovkin defended the title of world champion according to the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and won the belt of the world super champion according to the World Boxing Association (WBA) in the weight category up to 72.6 kg. In a 12-round bout held in Saitama, he defeated the Japanese Ryota Murataby TKO in the ninth round.

The fight was originally supposed to take place on December 29, 2021 in Japan, but was rescheduled due to quarantine measures.

40-year-old Gennady Golovkinwon 42 wins (37 by knockout) with one loss and one draw. He defended the IBF world title for the second time, which he has held since May 2019. The last fight before this, the Kazakhstani held on December 18, 2020 against the Pole Kamil Sheremety, winning by TKO in the seventh round.
