Japanese tennis player Kunieda fights for second gold medal

On the fourth day of the Tokyo Paralympic Games, Japanese wheelchair tennis star Kunieda Shingo scored his first victory in the men's singles event.

He is in contention for a third gold medal in this event, which could see him win four Paralympic gold medals.

On Saturday, in the second round of the competition, he defeated Slovakian athlete Marek Gergely in straight sets .

Kunieda, who is 37 years old, found himself in a wheelchair at the age of 9 due to a tumor in his spinal cord. He took up wheelchair tennis two years later.

During his career, he won 24 Grand Slam titles. However, he failed to win a medal at the Rio de Janeiro Games, where he competed after surgery on his right elbow.
