Japanese snowboarder Ayumu Hirano wins Olympic gold in halfpipe

Australian Scotty James was second, Swiss Ian Scherrer was third.

Japanese snowboarder Ayumu Hirano won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics in the halfpipe discipline. In the best of his three attempts, the athlete scored 96 points.

The second place was taken by the Australian Scotty James (92.50), the third by the Swiss Ian Scherrer( 87.25). Representatives of the Russian team were not represented in this discipline.

Ayumu Hirano 23 years old, he has two silver medals at the Winter Olympic Games (2014, 2018). He also became the winner of five stages of the World Cup.

This Olympics was the last for the 35-year-old American Sean White. He is one of the most decorated snowboarders in history, with three Olympic gold medals in the halfpipe. He became the winner of the World Winter Extreme Games (X Games) 13 times in slopestyle and superpipe disciplines, twice the champion of the summer X Games in skateboarding. At the halfpipe competition in Beijing, the American athlete took fourth place, showing the best result in the second attempt (85.00).

In the Beijing Olympics, the German team leads the medal count with six gold and three silver medals. The second place is taken by the Norwegian team (5-3-4), the third - by the Austrian team (4-5-4), the Russian team is on the ninth line (2-3-6). In terms of total number of medals, the Austrians lead (13), followed by the Norwegians and Canadians (12 each). The Russian team is in fourth place (11).

The Olympic Games will end on February 20th.
