Japanese skateboarder wins Olympic gold at age 13

Momiji Nishiya of Japan became the Olympic champion in skateboarding, winning the street discipline.

The athlete scored 15.26 points according to the results of the competition. The second was the Brazilian Raissa Lil (14.64), the third was the JapaneseFuna Nakayama (14.49).

Momiji Nishiya brought Japan's sixth gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. She won gold at the age of 13 years and 330 days, making her third in the list of the youngest Olympic champions. The record belongs to the AmericanMarjorie Gestring, who won Olympic gold in the 3m springboard diving at the 1936 Games in Berlin. The second place in the list is occupied by the German Klaus Zerta, who won the rowing doubles at the 1960 Olympics in Rome.

The Japanese team is in second place in the medal standings, having more one silver and one bronze each. The Chinese team is in the lead (6 gold, 2 silver, 5 bronze medals), the third place is occupied by athletes from the USA (5-3-4). The Russian team is on the sixth line (1-4-2). Skateboarding will make its debut in the program of the Games at the Tokyo Olympics, the decision to include it was made by the International Olympic Committee on August 3, 2016.
