Japanese figure skater wins World Championships

Japanese Sakamoto became the winner of the World Figure Skating Championship.

Japanese figure skater Kaori Sakamotowon first place at world championship in women's single skating. The tournament takes place in French Montpellier.

The winner scored 236.09 points (80.32 + 155.77) in the sum of the short and free programs. The second was the Belgian Luna Hendrix (217.70; 75.00 + 142.70). The top three was closed by the American Alice Liu  (211.19; 71.91 + 139.28).

Russian and Belarusian athletes do not participate in the World Championships, because on March 1 the International Skating Union (ISU) decided to remove skaters from these countries from  all competitions under the auspices of the organization. The ban on participation in competitions applies to figure skating, short track and speed skating.

Sakamoto 21 years old, she is the bronze medalist of the Beijing Olympic Games in the single skating and team tournament.

The World Championship will end on March 27
