Iranian shooter Javad Forughi wins gold at 2020 Olympics

Iranian athlete Javad Forughi won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol event at the Olympic Games.

The 41-year-old Iranian scored 244.8 points. Second place went to Serb Damir Mikec (237.9), third — Chinese Pan Wei (217.6).

Jawad Forugiset an Olympic record, surpassing the achievement of the Vietnamese Hoang Xuan Vinh (202.5), which was set at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Earlier on Saturday, the Russians< b> Artem Chernousov
and Vadim Mukhametyanov took 11th and 23rd places respectively in qualifying and failed to reach the final.

Forugi is a two-time bronze medalist of the Asian Championship in shooting in individual and team competitions (2019).

The Chinese team leads the medal standings with two gold medals. The second place is occupied by the Iranian team (one gold), the third place is shared by the teams of India and Russia, each with one silver medal. The Olympics will end on August 8th.
