IOC and China Media Corporation agree on exclusive cooperation

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and China Media Corporation (CMG) signed a new exclusive cooperation agreement on September 9. 

The agreement provides for the transfer of copyright to broadcast the Olympic Games in mainland China and the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) until 2032.

China Media Corporation will broadcast from Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo 2026, Los Angeles -2028, Brisbane 2032 and the 2030 Winter Olympics, for which the venue has yet to be determined.

CMG CEO and Editor-in-Chief Shen Haixiong and IOC President Thomas Bach signed the agreement at an online ceremony .
Under the new agreement, CMG will have exclusive rights to broadcast the Olympic programs on all platforms, including open-air television, pay-TV, internet, mobile devices. The corporation also has the right to sublicense broadcasting rights in the Chinese mainland and Macao SAR.

Thomas Bach said he was pleased to extend the agreement with CMG, a long-term broadcast partner of the IOC. With the new agreement coming into force, Chinese fans will be able to continue enjoying the first-class coverage of the Olympic programs provided by CMG. The IOC President also congratulated CMG on its excellent coverage of the Tokyo Olympics.

Thomas Bach announced that the IOC will redistribute 90% of its revenue to athletes and sports organizations worldwide. Support and solidarity are more valuable today when the COVID-19 epidemic is rampant around the world.

Shen Haixiong noted that the CMG and the IOC have been maintaining friendly cooperation for a long time. CMG sent a large team of almost 800 reporters to the Tokyo Olympics. The team has made a key contribution to the Olympic Games through broadcasting and coverage of sports events and public broadcast production, which has proven CMG's support for the Olympic Movement. The signing of the agreement between CMG and the IOC for a new period will expand the partnership between the two parties and create a solid foundation for a wide, continuous and sustainable distribution of the Olympic Movement. HD, which will be launched in 2021 along with the digital platform of the Olympic channel CCTV. This will be another key achievement of the deep cooperation between the CMG and the IOC, which will promote the Olympic Movement and Olympic culture in China.

CMG will leverage its leading edge of 5G+4K/8K+AI technologies to enhance cooperation with the IOC in public broadcasting, 8K ultra-high-definition broadcasting and other areas to provide audiences around the world with an audiovisual feast during the Beijing Winter Olympics.

CMG and the IOC are key partners for each other on a global level. CMG covered the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, broadcast the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, and covered each subsequent Summer and Winter Olympics, playing a key role in spreading the Olympic Movement both in China and around the world. .
