Hiroshima to host gymnastics tournament

The tournament in Hiroshima with the participation of gymnasts from Japan, China, Russia and the United States will be held on November 8.


The first international tournament in artistic gymnastics after the pandemic-related pause with the participation of the four strongest teams in the world will be held in Japanese Hiroshima on November 8th. According to TASS, the head coach of the Russian national team Valentina Rodionenko, along with the teams of Russia, Japan, and China, American gymnasts plan to take part in the tournament.


On August 26, the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation meeting the head of department Oleg Matytsin with President of the International Gymnastics Federation Morinari Watanabe and President of the Artistic Gymnastics Federation of Russia Vasily Titov, which was also attended by coaches and leading athletes of the Russian national team. Morinari Watanabe invited the Russian gymnasts to take part in the match meeting with teams Japan and China in Hiroshima.


“Japan Gymnastics Federation, which is the organizer of the competition, sent us the position,” said Valentina Rodionenko. — According to it, the tournament will be held on November 8th and will be one-day. Four teams are planning to take part in the competition - Americans have joined Russia, Japan and China, who also expressed their desire. From   will be declared eight athletes - four men and four women  


“We are ready to participate in this tournament, but  we are a bit unhappy with one-day format. But this will be the first start after a long break, so we can agree. Information about how we will get to Japan, where we are going to fly on November 6th, will become known later. I can only add that those our athletes whom we will later select to participate in this tournament will not perform at the Russian championship in Penza,  added the interlocutor of TASS.


According to Valentina Rodionenko, the organizers of the tournament in Hiroshima really want the strongest gymnasts to come to them. The 2020 Summer Olympics were supposed to be held in Japan, but the competition was postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.


The Russian Artistic Gymnastics Championship will be held in Penza from 26 October to 8 November. Baku will be the venue for the European Championship: men will compete for medals from 9 to 13 December, women from 17 to 20 December.
