Google Japan Technology Helps Visually Impaired Runners Run Their Own Runs

Google Japan is developing technology that will allow visually impaired people to go for a run in the fresh air on their own.

The runner attaches a smartphone to the stomach with a special application program installed. The smartphone's camera uses image recognition artificial intelligence in order to analyze the position of its wearer and the line drawn on the ground.

If the runner is on the right track, the device emits a soft sound. If he deviates from the route, the sound becomes louder, warning about this.

The company expects to put this system into practical use.

Google expresses its intention to improve the system so that it can cope with its task even when the line is covered with fallen leaves or dirt.
