Young shogi talent Fujii Sota became the youngest ever player to win five major professional titles in this Japanese board game.

Fujii took the Osho title by beating defending champion Akira Watanabe in the fourth meeting in a seven-game series. The match took place on Saturday in Tokyo.

The young talent Fuji is 19 years and six months old. The previous record was set by Habu Yoshiharu 28 years ago at the age of 22 years and ten months.

Fujii said he was honored to be the youngest player ever to win a fifth title. At the same time, he noted that he needs to train harder to become a worthy owner of five titles.

There are eight major titles in shogi. Fujii now holds the most titles among current professional shogi players.
