Ex-Formula 1 pilot from Russia to take part in endurance race



Russian racer Nikita Mazepin will compete in the Asian Le Mans Series in February.
Nikita Mazepin, a former driver of the Formula 1 World Championship, will compete in the Asian Le Mans Series (endurance racing) in the 2023 season. This was reported to TASS on Friday by the athlete's team.
"I am happy to return to racing and take part in the Asian Le Mans Series,— Mazepin said. "Together with my teammates, I hope to gain valuable experience of participating in competitions in my favorite sport."
Mazepin will play for the 99 Racing team, his crew partners will be 26-year-old Briton Ben Barnicott and 39-year-old Spaniard Felix Porteiro. The Asian Le Mans Series season consists of four four-hour races.
The first two will be held in Dubai on February 11-12, the final two in Abu Dhabi on February 18-19.
Mazepin is 23 years old, he spent his only season in Formula 1 in 2021 for the Haas team, his best result is a 14th-place finish. On March 5, 2022, Haas announced the termination of the contract with Mazepin due to the situation on Ukraine. In 2022, Mazepin took part in the Silk Road rally raid, in which he became the winner in the all-terrain vehicle competition.
