China's Liu Tingting wins World Artistic Gymnastics Championship

China's Liu Tingting wins the gold medal in the beam exercise at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Doha.


An 18-year-old Chinese woman scored 14.533. Canada's Anne-Marie Padurario was second with 14.100. The bronze was won by 13-time US World Champion Simone Biles (13,600). For Biles, this medal was the 19th at the world championships.

Liu Tingting became the world champion for the first time in her career. Earlier in Doha, she won bronze with the Chinese team in the team all-around.

The Chinese team won the third gold in Doha and overtook the Russian team in the overall medal standings, which has two golds, three silvers and bronze. The US team leads the standings (three golds, a silver and two bronzes).

The Russians failed to qualify for the finals in the beam exercise. The World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha ended on November 3.
