Azerbaijan hosts chess tournament in memory of Vugar Gashimov

A memorial competition among famous chess players is held from April 21 to April 28 in the city of Shamkir. 

The sports meeting is being held for the fifth time.

In the current clash of minds at the chessboard, the game of the Russian sportsman Sergey Karyakin is the most interesting. He managed to bring it to a draw with the famous Azerbaijani chess player Shakhriyar Mamedyarov.

The competition is held at the international level. In addition to Russia, countries such as Poland, China, the Netherlands, Norway and Bulgaria are represented at the tournament. Famous Azerbaijani 27-year-old athlete Vugar Gashimov died in 2014 from a brain tumor.
