Asian Boxing Championship moved to Dubai

The competitions have been moved to the UAE due to the current epidemiological situation in India.

The Asian Boxing Championship, which was supposed to be held in New Delhi, will take place in Dubai due to the rapid increase in new cases of coronavirus infection in India. This was announced on Tuesday by the press center of the Emirati government on Twitter.

“The UAE Boxing Federation, in cooperation with the International Boxing Association (AIBA) and the Boxing Federation of India, will hold the Asian Championship in Dubai. The tournament was supposed to be held in New Delhi, the capital of India, on the same dates, but the coronavirus pandemic makes it impossible to hold [in India]," the press center clarifies.

The dates of the tournament have not changed - 21-21 May 31. The competition was supposed to take place in India in 2020, but was postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus. The Asian Championship has been held since 1963.

Over the past day, 323.1 thousand confirmed cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in India. The total number of cases in the country amounted to 17.6 million. On Tuesday, the daily number of infected for the first time in six days showed a decrease of 8%. Earlier, for five days in a row, India recorded anti-records in the daily increase in the number of infected people.
