Kirill Prigoda took gold at the 2018 World Championships in Hangzhou.

The athlete became the first at a distance of 200 m breaststroke in short course, covering the distance in 2 minutes 0.16 seconds.

A swim took place in Istanbul
across the Bosphorus

The achievement was officially approved by the International Aquatics Federation, according to the All-Russian Swimming Association. The previous record was set by German Marco Koch in November 2016 (2:00.44).

Note that 23-year-old Kirill Prigoda is a two-time bronze medalist of the 2017 World Championships, a four-time short course world champion (2016, 2018). The Russian began swimming at the age of 6.

Breaststroke is often called the "Russian style", since throughout history, Soviet and Russian swimmers have set 20 world records in this type of swimming.
