AFC approves dates for 2023 AFC Asian Cup

The Asian Football Confederation has approved the dates for Asia Cup 2023 in China. 


The Continental Championship in China will be held from June 16 to July 16, informs official website AFC.


24 teams will take part in the 2023 Asian Cup. In addition, the tournament will be the longest ever, running for 31 days, three days longer than the 28-day UAE tournament in 2019. 


China will host the Asian Cup for the second time in history. The first time it was held in this country in 2004. The Asian Cup Games will be held in 10 cities, including: Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an, Dalian, Qingdao, Xiamen and Suzhou. 


AFC General Secretary Dato Windsor John is confident that "The AFC Asian Cup will continue to grow in popularity and the upcoming tournament in China will be the biggest and greatest in the history of Asian football."


The current winner of the tournament today is the Qatar team, the most titled Asian team is the Japanese team. 


The football team of Turkmenistan is fighting for participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Asian Cup in group H. Now the Turkmen team takes the first place in group H with 9 points.


In 2004 and 2019, the Turkmen football players could not leave the group.
