The exhibition of the Presidential Library opened in India

On January 25, 2023, an event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the breakout of the siege of Leningrad and the next anniversary of the liberation of the city from the Fascist blockade took place at the Russian House in Mumbai.


As part of this event, the exhibition "Defense of Leningrad", provided by the Presidential Library, was opened.

The Russian Consul General in Mumbai Alexey Surovtsev and the Director of the Russian House in Mumbai Elena Remizova addressed the participants of the event with a welcoming speech.

Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov in his video message noted: "The photographs presented in the exhibition convey the atmosphere of besieged Leningrad. Despite the constant bombing, hunger and cold, people did not lose hope, believed in victory, fought against the enemy and defended their hometown."


The exhibition, opened at the Russian House in Mumbai, shows the daily work of residents and defenders of Leningrad in the photographs of the TASS news agency. The pictures depict soldiers of the Red Army and the People's militia, sandruzhinnitsa, townspeople harvesting firewood and workers in production, city streets and masked monuments, fireworks in honor of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade, etc.

The exposition "Defense of Leningrad" was prepared on the basis of materials from the Presidential Library fund and is part of the digitized exhibition project of the library "We won because we were united", dedicated to the role of the peoples of the Soviet Union in the Great Victory. Documents, photographs, newspaper publications reflect the defense of Leningrad, the Battle of Moscow, the Battles of Stalingrad and Kursk. Special attention is paid to the liberation of Kiev and the whole Ukraine from fascists by the Red Army. The battles for Minsk, Kishinev, the Berlin Offensive and the Victory Parade in Moscow are also shown.

The portal of the Presidential Library hosts the electronic collection "Memory of the Great Victory", which contains official documents, photo and newsreels, wartime newspapers, books, memoirs of participants in battles and home front workers, photographs and postcards, as well as the collection "Defense and Blockade of Leningrad", which preserves the chronicle of tragic pages in the history of our country.

On the portal of the Presidential Library, you can also get acquainted with the electronic collection "Russia – India: from the history of relations". The collection includes travelers' notes, historical studies, dictionaries, archival and pictorial materials that cover the history of India from ancient times to the present day, as well as the history of Russian-Indian state, economic and cultural relations throughout the XIX–XXI centuries.
