Vietnam is ready to consider applications for the use of all Russian coronavirus vaccines.

Vietnam is ready to consider approving all Russian coronavirus vaccines if requested. Dang Minh Khoi, Ambassador of Vietnam to Moscow, stated this in an interview with TASS.

“The vaccines against COVID-19 used in Vietnam have now been approved at the request of the importer. In order for other vaccines, including those from Russia, to be approved for use in Vietnam, vaccine importers must submit a complete dossier to the Ministry of Health of the Republic for evaluation and approval in accordance with applicable procedures and rules,” the diplomat said, answering a question about the possibility of approval in the country of other Russian vaccines, except for Sputnik V.

On March 23 this year, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam approved the use of the Sputnik V drug for the urgent need to prevent the coronavirus epidemic. “Our countries are also actively exchanging experience and developing cooperation in the field of research, supply and production of vaccines against COVID-19,” the Vietnamese ambassador emphasized. According to him, Vietnam appreciates Russia's success in developing vaccines and its "great practical contribution to the fight against the global pandemic."

Orders from many companies

The Ambassador added that the Vietnamese authorities aim to receive about 150 million doses of vaccines by the end of the year to immunize 70% of the population over 18 years of age. “To achieve this goal, the Vietnamese authorities have made great efforts by negotiating and ordering vaccines from many manufacturers around the world. So far, Vietnam has reached agreements and signed contracts for the purchase of vaccines from many companies, including Pfizer (USA), AstraZeneca (UK) and Sinopharm (China),” he said.

So far, Vietnam has received more than 18 million doses of vaccines from various sources: through the COVAX mechanism, humanitarian aid, sales contracts with many countries and partners, such as Russia, the USA, Japan, China, the UK, Australia and others. “In addition, many countries, including Russia, have also made specific commitments regarding assistance, prioritization and cooperation with Vietnam in technology transfer related to vaccine production. Vietnam appreciates and sincerely thanks Russia and international friends for their timely and valuable assistance in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic,” concluded Dang Minh Khoi.

Earlier it was reported that Vietnam would hold talks with Russian Federation on the purchase of 40 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine. According to the proposal of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, approved by the head of government, the local company T&T will negotiate with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) on the commercial supply of the Sputnik V vaccine in the amount of 40 million doses. According to the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, the Vietnamese side had previously reached an agreement with the RDIF on the supply of 20 million doses of the vaccine to the republic in 2021. Vietnam is also discussing with the Russian Federation the possibility of creating on its territory a plant for the production of the Sputnik V drug with a capacity of up to 100 million doses of vaccine per year.
