Russia has been one of the key consumption markets for the Vietnamese tourism industry for many years.

Vietnam is preparing for a large-scale reception of Russian tourists after the upcoming opening of the country's borders on March 15, which remained closed to foreigners for two years due to the pandemic. This was reported to TASS on Monday by the chairman of the board of directors of one of the largest tour operators in Vietnam, Pegas Misr Travel (Pegas Misr Travel) Hoang Thi Phong Thu.

According to her, several years in a row before the start of the pandemic, the Russian tourist flow to Vietnam annually exceeded 600 thousand people, of which more than 170 thousand were hosted by Pegas Misr Travel. Sports and Tourism, together with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Transport, have developed a plan for the full opening of borders for foreigners from March 15, according to which the visa-free entry policy that was in effect before the pandemic for citizens of many countries, including Russia, will be restored. Russians will again be able to visit Vietnam using a visa-free regime for up to 15 days.

“The Vietnamese government attaches great importance to the return of Russian tourists to Vietnam, encouraging and supporting international travel agencies in organizing charter flights and flights of Vietnamese airlines to Russia to attract Russian travelers,” said the head of the company.

She drew attention to the fact that due to the current tension in Ukraine, the Russian tourism market was subject to instability, including due to the depreciation of the Russian ruble. In order to restore the Russian tourist flow to Vietnam under these conditions, it will take some time, as well as the support of the governments of the two countries, the head of the host company believes.

Russia has been one of the key consumption markets for the Vietnamese tourism industry for many years, and the Vietnamese tourist industry intends to further expand cooperation with the Russian Federation, Hoang Thi Phong Thu assured. “Vietnam is always open to friends from Russia. Vietnamese companies are ready to increase the reception of Russians and create all the necessary conditions for high-quality and safe recreation of Russian citizens in our country,” she concluded.
