Vietnam plans to remove all restrictions on the reception of tourists from abroad from the end of April. This was reported on Wednesday by the newspaper "Zan chi" with reference to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic.

Last November, as a pilot project, Vietnam began accepting a limited number of organized groups of foreign tourists with vaccination passports for the first time during the pandemic. Over the past period, the country's tourism industry has served about 7.8 thousand foreign travelers from a number of countries with a high level of epidemic safety, such as Japan, the Republic of Korea and Russia, which has become a very encouraging result on the path to restoring the tourism sector. “The pilot scheme is showing early encouraging results, with tourists eager to return to Vietnam. This indicates that Vietnam is a safe place on a regional and global scale,” said Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung.

According to him, the opening of the international tourism market will help accelerate the recovery process of the sector. “We cannot wait too long and therefore April 30 would be the right time to announce the full opening of Vietnam’s borders to foreign travelers,” the minister said.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused serious a blow to the Vietnamese tourism sector, contributing to a significant decline in the development of the local tourism market. Against the backdrop of the fact that the spread of the epidemic in Vietnam as a whole has been taken under control, in the coming year, the country's authorities intend to continue creating favorable conditions for the restoration and revitalization of the tourism business in order to give it a new impetus for development.

In 2021, the industry received a total 40 million people, including only 3.5 thousand foreigners. Its income amounted to 180 trillion VND (about $7.75 billion), which is 42% less compared to the pre-pandemic 2019. Against the background of the fact that the pandemic as a whole has been taken under control in Vietnam, in the coming year, the country's authorities intend to continue creating favorable conditions for the revitalization of the tourism business in order to give it a new impetus for development. In 2022, the tourism sector of Vietnam intends to provide its services to at least 65 million tourists, including about 5 million guests from abroad.
