Victory parade held at Khmeimim airbase in Syria

The parade began with the introduction of the Victory Banner and the state flag of the Russian Federation. Further, the military parade was received by the commander of the group of troops of the RF Armed Forces in the SAR, Lieutenant General Roman Berdnikov , in his speech he congratulated the servicemen and noted that they were the successors of the work of the participants in the Great Patriotic War. “Today, the soldiers and officers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation honorably defend the interests of Russia in the fight against international terrorism in the Syrian Arab Republic and during the special military operation in Ukraine, worthily continuing the victorious traditions of front-line heroes. We are worthy followers of front-line veterans, whose memory is passed down from generation to generation,” saidRoman Berdnikov.

Among the guests of honor of the parade were the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the SAR Alexander Efimov, representatives of the Syrian armed forces, other law enforcement agencies and the government of Syria. The Minister of Defense of the SAR, Corps General Ali bin Mahmoud Abbas also delivered a solemn speech. “We pay tribute with pride and reverence to the memory of the courage and heroism shown by the mighty Soviet people, who crushed the wild aggression of the Nazis in the Great Patriotic War. Today we are celebrating this great holiday at the Khmeimim base, which played a huge role in air support for the Syrian army. We are aware that the histories of our peoples are closely intertwined and that henceforth we will have to go with you shoulder to shoulder towards the future,” he said.

The parade continued with the passage of more than 80 units of military equipment, it was opened by the legendary Soviet a T-34 tank and a vehicle with a regimental mortar from the Great Patriotic War. Modern weapons and military equipment were represented by Tigr and Typhoon-K armored vehicles, BTR-82A armored personnel carriers, Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and gun systems, Iskander operational-tactical missile systems and others. From the Syrian Arab Army, columns of off-road vehicles with large-caliber weapons paraded in the ranks.

Further, in honor of Victory Day, aviation equipment of the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Air Force of the Syrian Arab Republic flew over Latakia - Mi-8, Ka-52 helicopters "Alligator" and Mi-25. Also taking part were Su-24M variable-sweep wing bombers, the latest Su-35S fighters, Su-34 supersonic fighter-bombers, A-50 radar detection aircraft, as well as An-26 and Il-38 military transport aircraft.

The parade ended with the performance of the song "Victory" by servicemen to the accompaniment of a military band.
