Vaccination against coronavirus in Azerbaijan to become mandatory

Azerbaijan introduces compulsory vaccination for the majority of the population.


The Azerbaijani authorities have decided on mandatory vaccination of the majority of the country's population. The corresponding decree was signed on Monday by the Prime Minister of the Republic Ali Asadov.

According to the document published on the website of the government, starting from September 1, at least 80 percent of all employees of government agencies should receive the first dose , and by October 1 - the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine, or must have certificates of immunity from COVID-19.

The same requirement applies to employees of all medical, pharmaceutical and scientific institutions, educational institutions, regardless of ownership, as well as to employees of public utilities, transport, logistics and communications, social services, trade and public catering enterprises, tourist facilities.

In addition, in accordance with the decree, students of higher and secondary specialized educational institutions over 18 years must have covid passports. The decree notes that starting from September 1, all persons over 18 years of age will be able to use the services of restaurants, cafes, hotels and large shopping centers only if they have covid passports.

The first case of coronavirus infection in Azerbaijan was detected on 28 February last year. The first peak of the epidemic occurred in June last year (up to 600 cases per day), the second - in November and December (on average from 3.5 to 4 thousand cases), the third - in April of this year (from 2 to 2.5 thousand cases). cases). The daily maximum - 4,451 cases - was recorded on December 13, 2020. Since the beginning of May this year, there has been a gradual decrease in the daily increase in cases of infection, but since the beginning of July, the number of cases of infection has begun to grow again. On Sunday, 386 cases of coronavirus infection were registered in the country, despite the fact that since mid-June, less than 100 cases have been recorded daily. A total of 340,443 cases of infection have been confirmed in Azerbaijan, 332,056 people have recovered, and 5,006 people have died.

Since January 18, the country has been vaccinating the population against coronavirus. As of July 25, more than 4.5 million vaccinations have been made in the republic. At the same time, more than 1.9 million people (out of a population of 10 million) received both doses of the vaccine.
