Record low temperature recorded in Western Siberia

Weather stations in the Novosibirsk, Tomsk and Kemerovo regions, as well as in Altai recorded record-low temperatures in the entire history of observations on November 27 and on the night of November 28. In particular, in Suzun, the thermometer columns dropped below 37 degrees below zero, Anna Lapchik, head of the hydrometeorological center of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "West Siberian UGMS", told TASS.

At the end of November, cold weather was established in the regions of Siberia. In some subjects, the thermometer dropped below 30 degrees below zero.

"At some weather stations in the Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Kemerovo regions, the Altai Republic, in the Altai Territory on November 27 and on the night of November 28, such low temperatures were observed for the first time in the entire history of observations," the agency interlocutor said.

She clarified that, depending on the station, temperature records set in 1987 were broken, in particular, in Novosibirsk Suzun, the temperature dropped to minus 37.9 degrees, which is 0.3 degrees lower than in the specified year. The history of observations at the stations is about 50 years.


Anna Lapchik added that thirty-degree frosts will last in Siberia until the end of the calendar autumn, from December 1, warming will come to minus 20 degrees during the day and minus 25-27 degrees at night. From December 5, the air temperature will become even higher, the wind will rise and snowfall will begin, however, as the agency interlocutor noted, the weather will remain "uncomfortable" due to air flows from the north.
