The Sverdlovsk Railway (SVZHD) has launched a tourist retro train "Ural Express", which will run on weekends from Yekaterinburg to the satellite city of Verkhnyaya Pyshma. The train cars are stylized for the beginning of the XX century, the journey time will take almost 1.5 hours, a TASS correspondent reports.

"I think everyone will like this project. Improvement work will be carried out continuously. Now there are six cars here, we have plans for different [additional] cars - a children's car, cars of various classes," said Dmitry Pegov, Deputy General Director of Russian Railways at the presentation of the Ural Express.

The train will follow the route Yekaterinburg - Shuvakish - Verkhnyaya Pyshma, the museum complex of the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC). The trip can be combined with a visit to the Museum of the History of Science and Technology of the Russian Railways in Yekaterinburg, as well as an open railway exposition and museums of military and automotive equipment in Verkhnyaya Pyshma.

The governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, Yevgeny Kuyvashev, added that joint projects with Russian Railways, both the Ural Express and the Orlan train launched earlier between Verkhnyaya Pyshma and Yekaterinburg, will be "hyper-demanded" from residents of the region. And Vladimir Yakushev, the presidential plenipotentiary representative in the Ural Federal District, in turn added that the development of Russian Railways is traditionally correlated with the development of the Ural industry. "The development of railway communication is always metal, electric locomotives and diesel locomotives, and this is the specialization of enterprises in the Urals. Therefore, when we talk about the development of Russian Railways, we are talking about the development of the Ural Federal District industry," he explained.

About the retro train

The retro train also includes a restaurant car, a buffet car and a photo booth. Passengers will be able to use an audio guide telling about the history of railways. Ural cuisine will be served in the dining car.

Part of the way the train will be driven by an electric locomotive ChS2, and a steam locomotive along the non-electrified section. At the Shuvakish station, the station building and a wooden platform in the historical style were recreated for tourists, and several thematic zones were organized. The cost of tickets at the initial stage will be from 299 rubles for adults.
