An agro-industrial technopark for the study and cultivation of tropical plants is planned to be created in Sochi, where the only subtropical resort in the Russian Federation is located.

"The Subtropical Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the state Farm "Russia" have signed a cooperation agreement <...>, the main goal is to develop the concept of the agro-industrial technopark "Subtropics of Russia", which provides scientific and technical support for the project," the press service of the city administration reported on Wednesday.

The mayor's office previously reported that subtropical crops are supposed to be grown in the city. It assumes to involve 900 hectares of tea-suitable lands in agricultural turnover. The developers plan to develop gardens of kiwi, persimmon, feijoa, hazel, tea plantations.

Within the framework of the agreement, scientists intend to develop educational programs in the field of agricultural production, agrochemistry and soil science. It is planned to introduce innovative technologies in the cultivation of new varieties of crops and seeds on the basis of an agricultural enterprise.
