The military parade in New Delhi in honor of the Republic Day was held with an emphasis on national equipment.

A military parade in India in honor of the national holiday — Republic Day was held on Thursday for the first time along the renamed main street of the Indian capital, which is now called Kartavya Path. In addition, according to the correspondent of TASS, the main topics of the parade were the emphasis on national military equipment and the demonstration of equal rights of women in the armed forces.

The main street of New Delhi was first called King's Way ("King's Way"), because George V, the only British monarch who visited his colony - India in 1911, visited Delhi and passed through here. Then the avenue was named "Raj path" (Rajpath, from "raj" - power, and "path" — path, road). The official interpretation of the name was that it was not a simple translation of the "Royal Way" into Hindi — the name emphasized that the street leads to the palace of the President of India, the former residence of the viceroy. But since September of last year, the street along which the main military parade takes place annually on the Republic Day on January 26 has been called Kartavya-path ("The Path of Duty" — meaning moral duty). Announcing this renaming, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially explained: The Raj Path as a symbol of slavery has now gone down in history.

In his welcoming address, the Prime Minister of India noted that this Republic Day is special because it takes place during the period when India celebrates the "Great independence day that gives immortality" (India gained independence from Great Britain in 1947, events on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of independence are held from August 2022 to August 2023). "I want us to move forward together to fulfill the dreams of the great freedom fighters of the country. Happy Republic Day to all compatriots!" — said the head of the Indian government.

On January 26, 1950, the Constitution of the newly independent India came into force, proclaiming the country a republic. Since then, Republic Day has been celebrated every year, and in A military parade is taking place in New Delhi. The date was chosen because on January 26, 1930, the Indian National Congress Party officially proclaimed a declaration of struggle for the full independence of India from the British Empire.
