The incidence of covid began to decline in the Novosibirsk region for the first time in 9 weeks.

The incidence of covid decreased over the past week in the Novosibirsk region by 15% — up to 5.5 thousand cases, the decrease is observed for the first time in nine weeks. At the same time, the indicator is still high, it is necessary to extend the high-alert regime in the region and reduce the number of mass events, the head of the territorial department of Rospotrebnadzor Alexander Shcherbatov said on Monday at an operational meeting in the regional government.

"The incidence of a new coronavirus infection in a week is 5.5 thousand cases, which is 15% less than the previous week. <...> Before that, there was an increase of nine weeks," Alexander Shcherbatov said.

He added that the situation remains tense, so it is necessary to extend the high-alert regime in the region, which is now in effect until September 30, as well as to reduce the number of mass events. He also said that over the past three weeks, more than 60% of cases have occurred in the city of Novosibirsk.

The governor of the region, Andrey Travnikov, agreed with the need to extend the regime, and also instructed his subordinates to prepare measures to combat coronavirus infection by the next meeting of the operational headquarters.

As the Minister of Health of the region Konstantin Khalzov said at an operational meeting, more than 292 thousand cases of infection were detected in the region, including 672 over the past day. 1.8 million residents of the region were vaccinated against coronavirus infection with the first component, more than 1.67 million people completed the full course. The share of the free bed fund is more than 50%.
