The interim Supreme Lama of the Republic was elected in Kalmykia

The rector of the central khurul of Kalmykia "Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni" Geshe Tendzin Choydak (Mutul Ovyanov) will temporarily serve as the Supreme lama of Kalmykia. His candidacy was supported by the monks of the region on Tuesday.

Previously included by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in the register of foreign agents, the honorary representative of the Dalai Lama in In Russia, Mongolia and the CIS countries, Telo Tulku Rinpoche (Erdni Ombadykov) resigned his powers as the Supreme lama of Kalmykia. With reference to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, it was reported that the representative of the Dalai Lama XIV Ombadykov openly supported Ukraine, spoke out against conducting a special military operation. Ombadykov is a US citizen.

"Today, at the general meeting of the monastic Sangha, which was attended by the gelongs of the "Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni" and the districts of the republic, a candidate was elected who will temporarily serve as the Supreme Lama of Kalmykia. He became the rector of the Central Hurul — geshe T Yendzin Choydak (Mutul Ovyanov)," reads the message published on the website of the central hurul.

It is clarified that three candidates from among the monks were also selected at the meeting — Geshe Tendzin Choydak (Mutul Ovyanov), gelyung Lobsang Tsondu (Anja Khartshaev) and gelyung Tendzin Norzang (Sanal Mukabenov). One of them will be confirmed as Shajin Lama of Kalmykia by the Dalai Lama XlV.
